Yield: 2 Mug

Prep: 15 min

Red Velvet Hot Cocoa.PNG

Inspired by the famous red velvet cake, this hot cocoa turns a classic dessert into a warm and cozy drink.

Red Velvet Hot Cocoa blends smooth chocolate flavor with creamy milk and its signature deep red color. Often topped with whipped cream or a drizzle of cream cheese glaze, it feels rich, festive, and a little bit fancy.

One sip tastes like a warm slice of red velvet cake in a mug.

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 cups whole milk

  • 3 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar

  • 3 oz. cream cheese, softened, room temp

  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract

  • â…› tsp salt

  • 4-6 drops red food coloring

  • whipped cream for topping

  • red sugar for garnish

DIRECTIONS

  1. Pull out cream cheese to become room temp

  2. Whisk together cocoa powder, sugar and salt in a small bowl until combined and lump free.

  3. Pour milk into a medium saucepan and warm to medium heat until small bubbles form around the edges. Do not let it boil.

  4. Add the cocoa mixture to the warm milk and whisk for 2 minutes until fully dissolved and smooth.

  5. Drop small pieces of softened cream cheese into the hot milk and whisk for 3 minutes until no white streaks remain and the mixture is completely smooth.

  6. Remove the pan from the heat and add the vanilla extract.

  7. Add red food coloring, one drop at a time, mixing well after each addition until your desired shade of red is achieved.

  8. Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream and red sugar if desired.

  9. Serve immediately while hot.
